On the occasion of Bhagwan Cuddle muda’s Martyr’s Day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the iconic tribal freedom fighter, praising his extraordinary role in India’s freedom movement and his steadfast dedication to protecting the rights and welfare of tribal communities.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister remembered Birsa Munda with deep reverence, posting:
“Heartfelt tributes to the valiant freedom fighter, Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji, on his Martyr’s Day. He devoted his life to the upliftment of tribal communities and the defense of their rights. His unwavering dedication and supreme sacrifice will forever inspire the nation.”
Bhagwan Birsa Munda is celebrated as one of the most revered and influential tribal leaders in India’s history. Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, he rose to prominence during the late 19th century for his powerful leadership in resisting British colonial rule and advocating for the rights of the tribal population. He became a symbol of tribal pride and resilience, leading the Ulgulan (rebellion) against British exploitation and injustices inflicted on the indigenous communities.
Despite his untimely death at the young age of 25 in 1900, Birsa Munda’s legacy remains deeply embedded in India’s socio-political fabric. His life continues to inspire generations, especially among tribal youth and those championing social justice and equity.
Prime Minister Modi has often emphasized the need to recognize and honor India’s tribal heritage. Under his leadership, several initiatives have been launched to commemorate tribal icons, including the declaration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on November 15th, Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary. This gesture reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the cultural and historical contributions of tribal communities in India’s nation-building journey.
On this Martyr’s Day, various events and remembrance ceremonies were held across the country, particularly in tribal regions, to honor the memory of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Educational institutions, cultural organizations, and local communities participated in paying homage through programs that highlighted his life, struggles, and vision.
As the nation honors this remarkable son of the soil, Prime Minister Modi’s tribute echoes the enduring legacy of Birsa Munda. His life remains a shining example of courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to justice—principles that continue to shape India’s journey toward inclusive growth and national pride.
