Siddaramaiah's Upcoming Meeting in Delhi

On June 10, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to travel to New Delhi for a meeting with Congress leaders. The discussions will likely revolve around various incidents, including a tragic stampede that occurred on June 4, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's office, Siddaramaiah will brief the party leadership on the latest developments during his visit.

Details of the Stampede Incident

The unfortunate stampede took place on the evening of June 4 outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a large crowd had gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL victory. The incident left 11 people dead and 56 others injured. Siddaramaiah had previously denied reports suggesting that the Congress leadership had sought information from him regarding the stampede.

Political Reactions and Responsibilities

In the meantime, Congress state president D.K. Shivakumar is also in Delhi today. When asked by reporters if he planned to meet with senior party officials, Siddaramaiah stated that he would not be doing so this time due to a crucial meeting in Bengaluru, but he would return later in the day. The opposition has called for the resignation of both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister over this issue. Siddaramaiah expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, "This was an unfortunate event that should not have occurred. Since I took office, there have been no such incidents. Initially, it appears to be a case of negligence on the part of the authorities, which is why we have taken action. Everyone is saddened by this event, including myself." He also mentioned that he attended a ceremony honoring the RCB team at the Vidhana Soudha, which he was invited to by the secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
