# You are swallowing too much air
Talking while eating, chewing chewing gum or drinking with straw can also cause you to swallow more air. There are only two ways to get out of the stuck air – in the form of belching or as a gas
# You are eating too much cruciferous vegetables
Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts can produce more gas than other foods, despite being healthy. They contain fiber and compounds that are difficult to digest, causing stomach to flower.
# You are eating too much dairy
As our age increases, in many people the enzyme called lactase ends, which helps in digesting the dairy. Without adequate lactase, milk, cheese and ice cream can cause gas, swelling and discomfort – especially in the elderly.
# You are eating too much carbohydrates
During digestion, most carbohydrates turn into sugar and prefer the bacteria in your stomach. When more sugar reaches the colon, the stomach bacteria eat it and release gas as a byproduct.
# You are eating too much diet soda or sugar-filled gum
Artificial sweeteners such as zilitol and sorbitol are not fully absorbed by the body. When these sweeteners reach the stomach, they become a party for bacteria – and often make more gas.
