Who can forget Baba Sehgal, who created a panic in the pop music world in the 90s? Baba Sehgal, who is called the first rapper of India, is known for his unique style and hit songs. But when his popularity was at its peak, he suddenly disappeared from Bollywood. Now years later, in an interview, he himself has told where he was and why the Hindi music industry was nervous with him.

🎬 “Bollywood was afraid of me, but South adopted me” – Baba Sehgal
In an interview to Siddharth Kanan, Baba Sehgal openly said that South’s film industry gave him respect and identity, which failed to give Bollywood.
He said, “Telugu film industry is my warmist. I have sung more than 250 Telugu songs, 35-40 Tamil and more than 25 Kannada songs. South took me seriously, but Bollywood always felt insecure from me.”

🔫 Threatened underworld in 1998
He also revealed that in 1998 he received threats from the underworld, affecting his career and personal life badly.

Bollywood music circle became uncomfortable with hit songs
Baba Sehgal said that many music directors of the Hindi film music industry used to call him, but he used to become uncomfortable with his open conversation and confidence.
His superhit songs ‘Gold Cold Pani’, ‘Dil Dhunda Hai’ and other Indipop Tracks made him famous from house to house.

🎙 When controversy sung ‘Rukmani Rukmani’
Referring to the Hindi version of the song ‘Rukmani Rukmani’ from Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Roja’ in 1992, he said that he had become sour by that experience.

Baba Sehgal said, “I was doing a show in Chennai, when an assistant director approached me and asked me to sing. I said yes without thinking. AR Rahman was also present there. Later I realized that neither Rahman nor Mani Ratnam loved me.”

🤯 “Hindi lyrics were very wart”
When he was given Hindi lyrics of ‘Rukmani’, he was shocked. He said, “Lyrics were so cheap and cheap that I did not understand who wrote them. He looks good in Tamil, but he feels strange in Hindi. Maybe Rahman and Mani Ratnam did not know their meaning.”

❌ “It was the first and last song with Rahman”
Baba Sehgal made it clear that ‘Rukmani Rukmani’ was his first and last song with Rahman.
The distance of the language and the conflict of ideas continued to increase the distance between them.
