New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is in England these days. The 5-Test series between India and England is going to start from June 20. The 18-member Indian team for this series was already announced. However Shreyas Iyer was not given a place in this 18-member team. Ganguly believes that Shreyas should have been picked based on his current form and he is not the player who got left out in the Indian Test team for the series against England. Iyer has been in great form for the last one year. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to win the IPL title in 2024. After this Punjab Kings captained by Iyer reached the final in IPL 2025. Ganguly had questioned Iyers absence in the Test team and mentioned his excellent performance in the last one year. Ganguly said that Iyer has also worked on his weakness of short ball and praised him for scoring runs under pressure. He has been playing at his best in the last one year and should have been in this team. Last one year has been fantastic for him. He isnt the player who got left out. He is now scoring under pressure taking responsibility playing the short ball well. Although Test crickets different I would have had him in this series to see what he can do Ganguly told RevSportz. Shreyas Iyer has played 14 Tests so far in his career. During this he has scored 811 runs in 24 innings at an average of 36.86 and a strike rate of 63.01. He has 50 half-centuries as well as 1 century to his name in Tests. Shreyas Iyer last played a Test match in 2024. He was dropped from the team in the middle of the series against England. In Ranji Trophy 2024-25 he scored 480 runs in seven innings for Mumbai at an average of 68.57.
