A man is in a stable but serious condition following a "targeted" stabbing in Liverpool this morning.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident which saw air ambulance deployed to the scene.

Eyewitness described how armed police could be seen flooding the area following the attack.

Detective Inspector Natalie Charlesworth said: "The investigation into this incident is in its early stages, but we believe it was targeted.

"We understand the worry that this incident will cause in the community, and we have deployed additional high visibility patrols in the area.
