The controversy over the BBC documentary ‘The Killing Call’ based on the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Mouswala is getting deeper. Mouswala’s father Balakaur Singh had lodged an objection to this documentary and demanded a ban on its release. However, the court rejected the demand and BBC released it on YouTube on 11 June, Mouswala’s birthday.

Balkaur Singh, while filing a petition in the Mansa court, alleged that this documentary has not only violated the privacy of the family, but could also affect the ongoing criminal investigation. Despite this, the court refused to stop the documentary immediately and the next hearing has been fixed on 12 June.

Court did not give interim relief

While hearing a petition filed by Balakaur Singh, Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Mansa, Rajinder Singh Nagpal said that the release of the documentary will not be immediately banned. Now a detailed hearing in this case will be held on June 12. Apart from BBC, Balakaur Singh has also made two other people – Ishaleen Kaur and Ankur Jain – as a party.

Used without consent- Balkaur Singh

Balakaur Singh alleged that the name, image and life facts were shown in the documentary without the permission of the family. He said that a complaint was also given to the Maharashtra Police, but no action was taken. He says that an attempt has been made to present the son’s legacy in the documentary incorrectly.
