Chinese taste now at home, make Hakka noodles at home

Chinese flavour has now become a special place in Indian cuisine and when it comes to Indo-Chinese food, Hakka noodles have become the most popular dish. This dish is especially liked by the youth and children. From street chaat carts to restaurants, there is a demand for Hakka noodles everywhere.

If you also want to avoid eating fried food outside but want to enjoy the taste of Hakka noodles, then this recipe is for you. Hakka noodles are extremely easy to make at home, requiring just a few simple ingredients and a little preparation.

Ingredients required to make Hakka Noodles

To make Hakka noodles, first you will need some essential vegetables and Chinese sauce. This recipe is quick to make, so it is better to keep all the ingredients chopped and ready in advance. The ingredients required are as follows:

  • Hakka noodles – 200 grams
  • Oil – 2 tbsp (preferably sesame oil)
  • Garlic – 4-5 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Onion – 1 medium size (thinly chopped)
  • Capsicum – 1 (cut into thin slices)
  • Carrot – 1 (cut into thin strips)
  • Cabbage – 1/2 cup (thinly chopped)
  • Soya sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Vinegar – 1 tsp
  • Chili sauce – 1 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup – 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Black pepper – half teaspoon
  • Green onion – for garnishing

You can get all these ingredients from any nearby grocery store or supermarket. Cutting the vegetables into thin and long pieces is the hallmark of this dish.

How to Make Hakka Noodles: Step by Step Guide

The process of making Hakka noodles is very easy and fun. This dish does not take much time, so it is better to keep everything ready in advance.

  1. First of all, boil water in a vessel and add some salt and a spoon of oil to it. When the water starts boiling, add noodles and boil them till 80-90 percent. After this, strain them and wash them with cold water and apply a spoon of oil and keep them aside so that they do not stick.
  2. Now heat the wok or pan on high flame. Add oil in it and first lightly fry the garlic. After that add onion and fry it for a few seconds.
  3. Now add carrots, capsicum and cabbage and fry on high flame for 2-3 minutes. Vegetables should not be cooked too much, they should be kept slightly crispy.
  4. Now add soy sauce, vinegar, chili sauce and tomato ketchup. Mix well and then add boiled noodles. Now mix everything on high flame so that all the flavors get absorbed well in the noodles.
  5. Finally adjust to taste by adding salt and pepper. Sprinkle green onions on top and serve hot.

Things to keep in mind while making Hakka Noodles

By keeping in mind some important tips while making Hakka noodles, its taste and texture becomes exactly like the restaurant one.

  • Do not over boil the noodles or else they may break. It is better to leave them slightly raw as they will become softer later on when cooked.
  • Cook vegetables quickly on high flame so that they retain their colour, flavour and crispness.
  • The flavour in Chinese dishes comes from high heat and rapid mixing, so don’t reduce the flame.
  • If you want, you can also add Ajinomoto as per taste, but it is optional.
  • When making it for kids, reduce the amount of chilli sauce or omit it altogether.
