Mothers of School-Going Children to Receive ₹15,000 Annually—Funds to Be Transferred Directly to Bank Accounts
In a major push toward supporting education and empowering women, a new government initiative will provide ₹15,000 every year to mothers of school-going children from Class 1 to Class 12. The amount will be directly transferred to their bank accounts once their child is enrolled in school.
The scheme is expected to benefit more than 67 lakh women, with the government earmarking ₹8,745 crore for the program. The launch date has been set for August 15, symbolically aligning it with the spirit of independence and progress.
Under this new education-linked welfare scheme, each mother whose child is admitted to school—starting from the first grade up to intermediate level—will receive an annual financial support of ₹15,000. The scheme applies to both boys and girls, and the benefit is disbursed only after the child’s admission is confirmed.
The entire process will function via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring that the funds reach the rightful recipient without delay or intermediaries. Officials have already finalized the guidelines, and government orders have been issued to ensure a smooth rollout.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to promote inclusive education and economic support for families. By directing the money into the mother’s account, the scheme not only strengthens the role of women in household decision-making but also encourages parents to prioritize their children’s schooling.
It is projected that more than 67.2 lakh students are eligible under this program. With enrollment linked directly to financial benefits, the scheme is expected to significantly increase school attendance and reduce dropout rates across all communities.
This newly launched initiative replaces an earlier education assistance program that provided similar benefits to economically disadvantaged mothers. However, unlike the previous version, the current scheme is designed to be more inclusive, targeting all mothers regardless of their income level, as long as their child is attending school.
The scheme will officially roll out on August 15, a date chosen not just for its national significance, but also to underline the themes of freedom, education, and empowerment. On this day, the first round of fund transfers is expected to take place, offering financial relief to millions of households.
This education-linked benefit is just one among several major promises made by the current administration. Here are a few other schemes that complement this program:
Free LPG Cylinders: Eligible families will receive three LPG cylinders per year at no cost, helping reduce their daily living expenses.
Monthly Allowance for Women: Every woman aged 18 to 59 will be eligible to receive ₹1,500 per month under a separate women's welfare scheme.
Support for Farmers: Farmers will get ₹20,000 annually to ease financial burdens and support agricultural development.
Unemployment Assistance: Jobless youth will be provided ₹3,000 per month as part of a broader skill and employment support initiative.
By combining financial aid with education, this new initiative seeks to bring real change at the grassroots level. With the mother as the direct beneficiary, the scheme not only supports students’ academic journeys but also empowers women financially and socially.
It reflects a growing understanding that investing in families, especially women and children, is the most sustainable way to build a prosperous future. As the scheme begins this Independence Day, it is set to bring much-needed relief and opportunity to millions of households.
