Hyderabad, the heartland of Telugu cinema, was buzzing recently with exciting news. Social media and film circles were filled with talks that IMAX is making a grand comeback to the city after more than a decade. According to several reports, Asian Cinemas, led by Suniel Narang, was said to be bringing a new IMAX screen to Hakimpet within the next two years. Fans were even more thrilled when rumors suggested that the much-awaited SSMB29—starring Mahesh Babu and directed by SS Rajamouli—could be released on this brand-new IMAX screen.
But when Siasat Daily checked the news, a source close to IMAX denied it, speaking to us. “The recent reports that IMAX is partnering with Asian Cinemas to bring an IMAX location to Hyderabad are entirely false. While IMAX is in conversation with multiple exhibitors about bringing IMAX to Hyderabad, no agreement is currently in place. IMAX is eager to expand into Hyderabad and will continue to proactively seek opportunities to do so.”
Hyderabad has always loved cinema. Years ago, Prasads IMAX was a favorite place for movie lovers. It had a big screen and amazing sound. But in 2014, IMAX left Prasads. Since then, Hyderabad hasn’t had a real IMAX screen. Prasads now shows movies in its own format called PCX.
