On June 11, the Indian cricket team posted headshots of the participating Indian players in the five-match Test series against England. Quite naturally, Shubman Gill's photo was posted. He was seen in different poses flexing his blessure or the baggy blue. But what caught the eyes was his bat. Earlier, Gill used to use a CEAT bat. But later he started using an MRF sticker. But now, he has started using the tag "Prince" on it. And that has been the cause of rage.

However, it's not new to have a tag on their belongings. Chris Gayle, the Caribbean Giant, used to have the tag "universe boss" emblazoned on his bat. Rishabh Pant has his gloves named as "Spidey." Rishabh's come with a much more comic tone.

Shubman Gill is often believed to be the successor of Virat Kohli. Virat, who took ages to earn the tag "King," never used it on his bat or any of his staff. However, Gill adding the "prince" tag just made him called as a "self obsessed" one.

Gill to Lead India in Tests

Notably, Shubman Gill was handed over the India's leadership as the first-choice captain in red ball cricket right after Rohit Sharma announced retirement from the format. This decision of the BCCI was also criticized by cricket fans as there are senior players who could take up the leadership role.

India will play against England at Headingley on June 30. The next four Tests will be played on July 4, 10, 23 and 31 respectively. With two senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having announced their retirement, it will be a tough challenge for the young Indian team to face England on their home turf.
