The Origin of Quordle

Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer in 2022, inspired by Wordle and Dordle. The game was later acquired by Merriam-Webster in January 2023.

Initially, engineer David Mah developed the prototype, which Meyer then refined. Drawing from Dordle, where players solve two grids at once, Quordle launched in February 2022 and quickly gained a million players within weeks.

Merriam-Webster purchased Quordle in January 2023 for an undisclosed amount, with the company’s president noting it was a favorite among employees and a valuable addition to their game offerings.
