Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals Win T20 Mumbai: The Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals have defeated the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the final of T20 Mumbai 2025 to win the third-ever edition of this competition. This match is also newsworthy as Sheyas, the captain of the Falcons, has now lost his second final in a row as a skipper.
The final was played at the Wankhede Stadium and saw SoBo win the toss and decide to bat first, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ishan Mulchandani opening the innings. Both the openers lost their wicket in the powerplay, bringing Shreyas Iyer and Amogh Bhatkal to strike
Amogh departed after scoring 16 in the nine-over. The skipper did not have a good day with the bat either, making 12 off 17 before being dismissed in the 12th over, with the score being 72/4 at that point.
After a poor start, Mayuresh Tandel and Harsh Aghav stabilised the inning. While Mayuresh scored a 32-ball-50, Harsh scored 45 off 28. The two batters brought the SoBo Mumbai Falcons to 157/4 in 20 overs.
In response, Sahil Jadhav opened the batting for South Central along with captain Siddhesh Lad. The two scored 30 runs together before the skipper was dismissed for 15 off eight. Jadhav would get out in the powerplay as well, as the score was now 42/2 in the fifth over. While two wickets fell early, the openers ensured to stay ahead of the required run rate.
Chinmay Sutar and Sachin Yadav then trudged the inning along. By the time Yadav was dismissed for 19 off 20, the score was 83/3 in the 11th over. Awais Naushad then picked the pace of the inning up and formed a 67-run partnership with Sutar. When Naushad got out for 38 off 24, the Royals were just eight runs away from victory.
Sutar was dismissed soon after for an anchoring 53 off 39. With seven runs required in the last over, Rohan Raje scored eight in three, finishing the match with a four and winning the final for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
Not only does this mean that the Royal won the tournament, but also that Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Falcons, has now lost his second final in a row. Less than two weeks ago, Shreyas had led a Punjab Kings side that had not even made it to the playoffs in 11 years to the final of the Indian Premier League 2025.
Not only did Iyer have a poor outing in that match, scoring just one run, but the team itself fell nine runs short of a very achievable target of 191 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, coming inches away from winning their first trophy.
This was Shreyas Iyer’s third T20 final of the year as a captain. First, he won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Mumbai, then lost the IPL final with PBKS, and has not lost the T20 Mumbai 2025 final with SoBo Mumbai Falcons.
