5 Students Killed In Ahmedabad Medical College Where Air India Plane Crashed

Ahmedabad plane crash: At least five students of the BJ Medical College UG hostel mess in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar were killed after an Air India plane crashed at the institution on Thursday afternoon.

Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off. A total of 242 people were on board the aircraft, and reports say all of them are feared to have died.

Earlier, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) claimed students were present at the hostel mess at the time of the crash. Images shared by FAIMA show a part of the plane stuck in the building of the hostel, which could be seen to have suffered damage.

An official note from FAIMA said, “As per discussion with President RDA BJ Medical College Ahmedabad & Vice President FAIMA Dr Dhawal Gameti, till now, around 50-60 MBBS Students are admitted and everyone is stable." The statement added that 4-5 MBBS students were missing and 2-3 were in HDU & ICU.
 

“We are deeply shocked by the news of the AI plane crashing in Ahmedabad! News has become more gruesome after finding out that the light had crashed in BJMC, Hostel & many MBBS students have also been injured!!!! We are monitoring the situation closely & are ready for any help," FAIMA India said on X.

Meanwhile, videos from the crash site show parts of the crashed aircraft lying around while people were seen pushing these parts.
The plane was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian passenger. Heavy smoke was visible from Dharpur near the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad. The fire brigade has rushed to the spot, and emergency response teams are being mobilised. Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the crash.
