Shreyas Iyer's aspirations for a T20 championship faced another setback as his team, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, fell short in the T20 Mumbai League final, just a week after their defeat in the IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The final match, held at Wankhede Stadium on June 12, saw Iyer's squad lose decisively to the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
In the aftermath of the match, Iyer shared his thoughts on the loss, describing the experience of losing two finals in quick succession as 'quite overwhelming.'
He stated, 'It's quite overwhelming to lose two finals in just 10 days. Especially after a loss, it lingers in your mind. The turnout of fans was remarkable, and the atmosphere in the stadium was electrifying. I sincerely appreciate everyone for their support.'
Iyer emphasized that he did not want to single out any specific incident for the defeat, praising his team's overall performance. 'We lost just one game on our way to the final. It was a one-off match where it's unfair to blame anyone. It feels like a betrayal, and I don't appreciate that. We've learned a lot from this experience. It's natural to feel disheartened after such a loss, and it must be painful for the team.'
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the next season, saying, 'When they return next year, they will carry that motivation and confidence. They should take pride in their efforts. Competing in front of 20,000 spectators is no small feat, especially for those with limited experience. I've been in similar situations; nerves can lead to mistakes, but these experiences teach you valuable lessons and help you come back stronger.'
