South African batsman David Bedingham believes the Proteas are building momentum as they head into a big chase in the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s. After a day of some good bowling from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, South Africa got Australia to 144/8 in their second innings by the end of Day 2. Australia still lead by 218 and South Africa need to get the last two wickets quickly on Day 3 before they go for a possible historic chase.

We’re feeling good and I think the batters will stick to their plans, Bedingham said. There’s a lot of excitement and belief in the change room about what we can do.

Bedingham also pointed out that teams have chased over 250 at Lord’s three times before which should give the Proteas a boost. Having done well in tough conditions himself with 45 from 111 in the first innings, he knows his performance could be key.

As play finished he told his teammates to stay calm and composed for what’s going to be a big day. The main thing is to fully commit, whether you’re defending or attacking, he said. If you’re in between against these bowlers it can be tough, so just go all in, whether you’re defending or going for runs.
