What is the Marigold Flower Development Scheme
The Marigold Flower Development Scheme is being run by the Bihar government under the "Integrated Horticulture Development Mission". Its purpose is to move beyond traditional farming and take farmers towards cash crops. Under this scheme, farmers cultivating marigold flowers are given a subsidy of 50% to 70%.
How much subsidy is available
Subsidy of Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000 per hectare for marigold cultivation. Farmers cultivating marigolds in an area of 25 acres or more get assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh per acre. This assistance is sent directly to the farmers' account through the Bihar Horticulture Department.
Who can take advantage of the scheme?
Only those farmers whose registration has been done on the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) portal.
If there is no registration, then first go to the website and apply. To avail of the scheme, one has to apply online on the website www.horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
Application Process
Go to the website and click on the option “Genda Phool Vikas Yojana”.
Fill in the required details – name, address, farm details etc.
Upload documents – Aadhaar card, bank details.
After submission, the department will verify it.
The subsidy will be sent directly to your account.
Why cultivate marigold?
Demand throughout the year: Marigold flowers are in demand throughout the year – during festivals, weddings, poojas.
Low cost, high profit: Good earnings are possible in one acre at low cost.
Price of flower: Depending on the season, it can be available from ₹20 to ₹200 per kg.
Uses in pharmacy and Ayurveda too: Marigold has antioxidant properties, due to which it is also used in medicines.
Flower with positive vibes: It is also important in Vastu, used daily in temples and homes.

How to cultivate – know the tips
Soil: Friable and well drained, pH should be 6.5 to 7.5.
Climate: Cool places are good, but can be grown in all three seasons – summer, winter and rain.
Sowing: January-February, mid-June and September – these three times are considered the best.
Irrigation: Water every 8-10 days in winter, every 4-5 days in summer.
Pest control: Protection from fungus, insects is necessary – organic spray is also effective.
Topping and deadheading: Control the height of the plant to make it bushy and keep removing the withered flowers.
