After the much-hyped OnePlus 13s, OnePlus is now rumoured to bring updates to the Nord series. The Nord 4, which has been around for a year now, is set to get an upgrade along with the Nord CE 4. As always, the phones are expected to be called the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5, with OnePlus likely to launch them in July 2025.
Although OnePlus is yet to make any revelations about these phones, the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 are likely to bring some key specification upgrades this year. Both phones are expected to sport faster processors and will likely feature a new design with fancy colourways. In a bid to keep them competitive, OnePlus could retain the same launch prices of the outgoing models, thus offering strong competition to the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, Samsung Galaxy A36 and the Google Pixel 8a.
OnePlus Nord 5: A threat to the OnePlus 13R?
The OnePlus Nord 5 is shaping up to be a true contender for a new king in the performance-centric midrange segment. While the OnePlus 13R relies on last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the more accessible Nord 5 will come with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC - a rehashed version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, the Nord 5 could be a serious gaming package in its segment.
The display is supposed to be a 6.77-inch flat OLED display boasting 1.5K pixel resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. As far as the camera system is concerned, the Nord 5 is tipped to carry over the Nord 4's optics, featuring a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. A 16MP front camera will handle selfie duties.
Since OnePlus is going berserk with battery capacity, the Nord 5 is now rumoured to feature a gigantic 7,000mAh battery - something we saw on the Realme GT 7T recently. You can expect OnePlus to complement this with a fast 80W (or 100W) wired charging solution for quick fill-ups.
Industry rumours suggest that the phone could look a lot like the OnePlus Ace 5 from China. Hence, don't be surprised to see the Nord 5 resemble the Samsung Galaxy A56 a lot. The Nord 5 is expected to have a starting price of less than Rs 35,000 at the time of its launch.
OnePlus Nord CE 5: The value champion?
The OnePlus Nord CE 5 wants to challenge Xiaomi and Vivo midrange phones with a lower price tag, which is expected to start from less than Rs 27,000. This device is rumoured to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 SoC, a capable midrange chipset. It’s expected to arrive with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The Nord CE 5 will likely feature a 6.7-inch flat OLED display offering Full HD+ pixel resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Camera specifications might mirror its more premium sibling, featuring a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 16MP front-facing camera.
Compared to its predecessor, the Nord CE 5 will be offering a significant upgrade to the battery stamina, featuring a rumoured 7,100mAh cell supported by 80W fast charging. The design is expected to echo the Nord 5's simplistic look.
OnePlus Nord 5, Nord CE 5 expected launch date
Considering how OnePlus reserves the new Nord series devices for launch in July every year, the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 are expected to be announced in July 2025.
