The CLKA Open Hand Art Studio, located within the Le Corbusier Centre in Sector 19, has been beautifully transformed by the captivating works of Simrit Luthra, a talented artist from Chandigarh. This solo exhibition is organized by the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi in partnership with Chandigarh Tourism.
As a self-taught artist, Luthra draws profound inspiration from nature, which serves as both her muse and a trusted companion. Her exhibition delves into themes surrounding nature, femininity, and spiritual reflection, with a notable emphasis on the vibrant use of blue throughout her pieces.
One of her notable artworks depicts a tranquil monument she encountered while traveling to Fatehgarh Sahib, while another showcases the vibrant flowers from her own garden, brought to life with rich, expressive colors.
While many of her creations are inspired by the natural world, others arise from spontaneous brushwork, allowing her imagination to flourish. A particularly striking piece illustrates a surreal underwater realm featuring a woman and child amidst blooming lotuses.
Although oil paint is her medium of choice, Luthra is open to exploring various techniques. Her distinctive palette, dominated by blues and earthy shades, reflects her interpretation of the universe, symbolizing the elements of air, earth, water, and sky, harmoniously intertwined through light, texture, and color.
With a background in English literature from Panjab University and Women’s Studies from SNDT, Mumbai, Luthra often infuses her academic insights into her artistic endeavors.
For her, painting transcends mere expression; it serves as a conduit for achieving tranquility and spiritual connection.
Visitors can explore this remarkable exhibition until June 19.
