Davanagere: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has clarified that the state’s upcoming survey is fundamentally different from the Centre’s proposed caste census.

Speaking to the media in Davanagere, the CM said that instructions have already been issued to the Backward Classes Commission to launch a fresh socio-economic and educational survey.

He pointed out that while the central government has announced its plan to conduct a caste census in 2027, it has made no mention of conducting a comprehensive social and educational survey. “The Centre is focused only on counting castes. We have no objections to their exercise. However, our survey will include caste data along with detailed information on social and educational conditions,” Siddaramaiah explained.

He further stressed that social justice can be achieved only through a detailed social and educational survey. “We will undertake a new survey because the earlier one faced objections from some quarters. Also, as per Section 11, if ten years have passed since the last survey, a new one must be conducted,” the CM added.
