Sean Abbott has been called up to join Australia’s squad for their Test series against the West Indies, starting on June 25 in Barbados. He’s stepping in for Brendan Doggett, who has to sit out due to a minor hip injury. Doggett was a reserve for the World Test Championship Final, but now he’s heading back home.

Abbott, who’s 33, has played 28 ODIs and 20 T20Is for Australia, taking 59 wickets so far. He hasn’t debuted in Test cricket yet, but he was part of the squad that toured Sri Lanka earlier this year and played during the Border-Gavaskar series at home.

Australia is off to Barbados for the first of three Tests, followed by games in Grenada on July 3 and in Jamaica on July 12, which will be the West Indies’ first day-night Test.

The team is also waiting to see what happens with Steve Smith, who dislocated his finger during the third day of the WTC final at Lord’s. Thankfully, he didn’t break any bones, which would’ve meant surgery. He might be able to play with a splint as he recovers. “It just split the skin and dislocated it, which made me feel pretty ill at that stage,” Smith said after the loss to South Africa. He added, “I think I’m in a splint for eight weeks now and may be able to play with it in a couple of weeks, so it’ll depend on how things go.”
