Many types of claims are being made on social media regarding the census across the country. Some posts are saying that the census and caste census will not happen simultaneously, while some are calling it a political conspiracy. But now the Home Ministry has clarified all these discussions and confusions.

The Home Ministry has clearly said that the process of the Census of India and the Caste Census will be done simultaneously. On June 15, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting on this subject, in which the preparations for the census were reviewed. After this, an official press release was also issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, confirming that both processes will happen simultaneously.

Misleading information was being spread on social media.

For the past few days, rumors have been spreading on social media that the central government would only conduct a general census and caste data would not be collected. In some posts, it was described as a conspiracy against a particular community. Many users also called it an attempt to hide the caste-based population. But the latest statement of the Home Ministry has put an end to all these speculations.

Census and caste census – both will happen together

According to the Government of India, during the census, details related to caste, sub-caste, and community will also be taken from the citizens. This data will not only help in formulating strategies for social schemes but will also play an important role in assessing the condition of the weaker sections of society.

The census will be done digitally.

The 2025 census will be completely digital and technology-based. People will also be given the option to enter their data themselves through mobile apps. Along with this, the government will also appoint officers to collect data by going door to door.

Why is a caste census necessary?

The biggest objective of a caste-based census is to know how much population of which caste or community is there and what is their socioeconomic status. This will help the government in making plans, reviewing reservation policy, and ensuring social justice. If you see any post on social media that says 'caste census will not happen' or 'this is a unilateral decision of the government', then understand that that information is false. The Home Ministry itself has confirmed that both the census and caste census will be conducted simultaneously.
