Regional News: In the winter of 1958, Neem Karauli Baba often used to go out for meditation in the dense forests of the Himalayas alone. One night, the news spread in a village near Nainital that Baba was meditating in a deserted hill hut – where a cannibal tiger was seen a few days ago. A courageous young man from the village, who was in anxiety, decided to see Baba at night. When he approached the hut, the scene that saw his soul trembled – Baba was meditative and a tiger was sitting quietly nearby, as if there was a disciple.
It was a cold night of 1958. Neem Karauli Baba was meditating in a hut in a deserted part of the Himalayas. There was panic in the village due to the news of the presence of a cannibal tiger in the same area. Despite this, Baba was fearless, as if he did not care about the tiger. A courageous young man from the village went to see Baba. When we reached near the hut, I saw – Baba is sitting in meditation, and the tiger is sitting calmly. The young man ran away in the opposite leg and told this to the villagers.
When Baba returned to the village in the morning, all the people were standing around him. Somebody said fearfully, “Baba, that tiger …?” Baba smiled and said, “He was not hungry, was just tired. I said, son go to sleep. He fell asleep.” This simple thing of his touched everyone’s heart. There was no pride in Baba’s words, just a calm truth. There was the energy within them that would also give rest to violence. And this was his miracle – not the question, to work with sensation. The fear with which people tremble, Baba also stare at him in peace. There was no threat to them, there was a tired soul. And Baba only knew to rest the soul, not to subdue.
Another villager said, “Baba, if he would have attacked?” Baba answered seriously, “When there is love, animals also become humans. And when there is ego, humans also become animals.” Baba’s answer was not just philosophy, it was the true feeling of that night. The tiger did not see Baba, he felt his inner energy. This was the same energy that makes dialogue between the forest and humans. Where there is a fear, there is an attack, but where there is love – there is silence. Baba did not give any order, just expressed love.
Neither there was any kind of system, nor chanting, nor any kind of protection system. Only Baba had a calm and loving appearance. The tiger remained quietly as a child sitting near a father. Baba did not hit nature, adopted it. This incident never appeared in a newspaper. Nor was it recorded in a book. But those who listen to this still become emotional. This incident comes from the world of faith, which is beyond logic.
There is not just a tiger in this story, a whole education is hidden in it. This is the story of ego and love collision – where love won. What Neem Karauli Baba did that night was not just courage, it was the power of consciousness. He told that we are not separate from nature, but part of it. When we are calm from within, the forest also accepts us. This was the biggest miracle of Baba – the experience of Integral with Prakriti. And it is equally alive even today.
