G7 Summit Addresses Middle East Tensions

As the G7 Summit convenes in Canada, the leaders have released a statement regarding the escalating conflict in West Asia, emphasizing their dedication to achieving peace while recognizing Israel's right to defend itself.

"We, the leaders of the G7, reaffirm our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we assert that Israel has the right to defend itself and reiterate our support for its security," the statement declared.

The G7 also highlighted the necessity of protecting civilians amidst the ongoing violence. Furthermore, the nations identified Iran as the main contributor to instability and terrorism in the region.

"Iran is the primary source of regional instability and terror. We have consistently stated that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon. We call for a resolution to the Iranian crisis that promotes broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza. We will remain alert to the impacts on international energy markets and are prepared to coordinate with like-minded partners to ensure market stability," the G7 leaders' statement continued.

In a related development, US President Donald Trump departed the G7 summit early, signaling his intent to negotiate a deal with Iran to resolve the conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron informed reporters that Trump has proposed a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

"An offer has been made, particularly to establish a ceasefire and initiate broader discussions," Macron stated. "If the United States can broker a ceasefire, it would be a significant achievement, and France will support it and hopes for its success," he added.

Earlier, Trump took to Truth Social, urging evacuation from Iran and strongly opposing the notion of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

"Iran should have accepted the 'deal' I proposed. It’s a tragedy and a waste of human life. Simply put, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I have reiterated this countless times! Everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately!" he posted. He further emphasized, "America First encompasses many important principles, including preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Make America great again," he stated. The conflict between Israel and Iran has now entered its fifth day, with both nations exchanging missile strikes.

Civilians in critical regions are enduring relentless attacks. Reports indicate that at least 224 individuals have lost their lives in Iran since the onset of hostilities, while 24 fatalities have been reported in Israel.
