New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday 17 June 2025 afternoon announced the cancelled of its Ahmedabad-London Gatwick flight AI 159. The airlines said the reason behind the cancellation was the unavailability of aircraft due to airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks and that there was no technical problem said a spokesperson of the airlines.
Flight AI 159 was scheduled to depart at 1.10 pm but was rescheduled to 3 pm while at 1.45 pm Air India confirmed that the flight had been cancelled. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was supposed to fly as AI 159 according to the Air India website.
Flight AI159 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick has been cancelled today due to the unavailability of the aircraft resulting from airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks leading to longer than usual turnaround of aircraft and not due to any technical snag as claimed said Air India.
We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and have made alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination. We are providing hotel accommodation and also offering full refunds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling if opted by the passengers. Consequently flight AI170 from London Gatwick to Amritsar of 17 June stands cancelled it added.
I was travelling to London but it has been cancelled. The crew did not provide any reason or details about a refund said an incensed passenger while talking to news agency ANI even as airport sources said that the stranded passengers will be re-routed.
This comes days after the horrific crash of Air Indias AI 171 also a 787-8 Dreamliner flying on the same route i.e. from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.
