Calls her childhood home a “survival zone”Kahi also recalled the issues she had to face as a child, calling her house a “survival zone”. She shared that “I always felt unloved and lonely. Home never felt like a place for me. I remember one time, I caught my mother washing a blanket that was soaked with her blood after my father beat her."
The singer-dancer also tearfully shared her ordeal of facing abuse in her own home, saying that “There wasn’t a single object I wasn’t beaten with. Sticks, belts, hangers. I was hit at the slightest provocation.”
Left home at an early age to pursue her careerDue to the toxic environment at her home, Kahi also talked about how she would spend nights in her school instead of going back to avoid any conflicts. She also detailed how ‘a window’ saved her life. She shared that she ran away from home to pursue her love for dancing and singing.
“I remember hiding in the bathroom with a friend, saying, ‘I really don’t want to go back.’ My friend opened the window and said, ‘Ji Young, go.’ That window changed my life," the idol shared.
She then expressed gratitude towards her mother for supporting her throughout everything. Kahi shared that “Looking back, I think my parents were going through a really hard time too. I’m so thankful my mom stayed with us and protected us, even without divorcing my dad during that difficult time.”
