IndiGo flight 6E 2706 going from Kochi to Delhi had to land in an emergency at Nagpur Airport when the aircraft received a bomb threat during the flight. The incident occurred shortly after flying from Kochi Airport at 9:20 am, after which the security agencies were alerted.
As soon as the aircraft received the bomb threat, the pilot immediately informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC). According to security standards, the aircraft was diverted to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur. After a safe landing of the aircraft, passengers were safely taken out and the aircraft was parked at a separate place.
The team of bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) immediately reached the spot and started a thorough investigation of the aircraft. Passengers’ goods and every part of the aircraft were examined in detail. Although no explosive has been confirmed yet, no laxity has been taken on security.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police have tightened security at the airport. Entry and exit in the airport premises are being monitored strictly. The investigation of the threat is on, and an attempt is being made to find out how reliable information was and what was its source.
This incident has come to light at a time when recent aircraft accidents in the country have raised serious questions about aviation security. Especially on June 12, Air India flight AI-171 accident pain in Ahmedabad is still fresh. 274 people were killed in the accident, in which 241 passengers and crew were riding on the plane, while 33 people were killed on the ground.
After the accident, Air India started the new flight AI-159 of the same route, but on Monday it also had to cancel for technical reasons. This number has been removed after the AI-171 crash. Along with this, the name of the return route has also been named AI-160.
