Actor and former PTI supporter Hamza Ali Abbasi has stirred political debate after publicly condemning the May 9th incident and criticizing certain policies of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. His remarks came during a recent appearance on journalist Mansoor Ali Khan’s talk show, where Hamza shared his views on the state of politics and PTI’s direction.
Hamza strongly denounced the events of May 9, 2023, when violent protests erupted following Imran Khan’s arrest, leading to attacks on military and state installations. “There can be no justification for attacking institutions or damaging public property. What happened on May 9 was wrong and must be condemned by all,” Hamza stated.
He went on to say that while he once supported Imran Khan and believed in his vision for change, he now disagrees with the party’s current stance and leadership decisions. “There’s a difference between being loyal to a person and being loyal to the truth,” he added.
Hamza’s comments quickly drew backlash from PTI supporters on social media, with many accusing him of betrayal and questioning his political consistency. Several prominent PTI workers and online activists criticized him for “turning against” the party during a difficult time.
Despite the criticism, Hamza stood by his words, emphasizing the need for accountability, peaceful politics, and respect for democratic institutions. His statement has added fuel to ongoing political discourse, highlighting deep divisions among former allies of PTI.
