Al Hilal's Stance on Ronaldo Transfer

Esteve Calzada, the CEO of Al Hilal, has firmly rejected recent rumors linking the club to a potential short-term acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo, labeling such speculation as both unrealistic and illogical.

Despite circulating reports that the Portuguese forward, whose contract with Al Nassr is nearing its conclusion, was eager to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, Calzada clarified that Al Hilal had never genuinely contemplated this transfer.

Calzada's Insights on Player Transfers

In a discussion with a media outlet, Calzada stated, "We typically refrain from commenting on specific player situations, especially since our club's name is often mentioned when players or agents seek to negotiate better deals elsewhere or advocate for transfers."

He emphasized the challenges of acquiring a star player from a domestic rival, even though both clubs are part of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).

"While I hold Ronaldo in high regard and respect his legendary status, signing the top player from our main competitor wouldn’t be logical," Calzada remarked. "This is especially true for a tournament lasting only three to four weeks, as such decisions can have lasting repercussions."

He also highlighted the difficulties posed by the current transfer window, describing it as "unusual" and "very short," which complicates the process of making swift yet significant decisions.

Future Transfer Plans for Al Hilal

With the initial transfer window for the Club World Cup now closed and the second phase underway, Al Hilal is anticipated to be active in the market once more. The club has been associated with several high-profile players, including Victor Osimhen and Darwin Núñez.

Calzada acknowledged the club's ongoing efforts to enhance the squad while also noting the challenges they have encountered.

"We considered various options to strengthen the team, but some players were already on vacation, and others had unrealistic financial demands," he explained. "Nonetheless, we believe our current roster is highly competitive."

Al Hilal is set to re-enter the transfer market after the Club World Cup, aiming to further improve their lineup.

The Saudi club will commence their Club World Cup campaign against Real Madrid on June 18, followed by a match against RB Salzburg on June 22, and will conclude the group stage with a game against Pachuca on June 27.
