Indian young gun Harshit Rana has been kept on with the Indian team in England as an unofficial member of the Indian team, as a cover option. BCCI official confirmed that Rana has been kept with the team as cover for some players who are said to be struggling with minor niggles.
Rana, who has played two Tests, five ODIs, and a T20I, hasn't been included in the official squad but still remains with the team. The right-arm pacer accompanied the Indian team from London to Leeds on June 17.
India, led by Shubman Gill, already has a pace-bowling attack that includes five frontline pace bowlers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. India also has the services of two pace-bowling all-rounders, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur, to provide a different dimension to the team.

Rana had previously been a member of the India A team that played two fixtures against the England Lions and also featured in an intra-squad fixture at Beckenham. The rest of the other India A players are said to have gone home.
Meanwhile, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir is also set to return to the team soon, most likely on Tuesday. The ex-India opener had flown back to Delhi from the UK for a family problem following his mother's hospitalisation.
However, it is learnt that he left the national capital for London on Tuesday morning. The opening Test of the newly christened Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India is to commence on Friday, June 20, in Leeds.
