The state’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar has tried to clarify the situation amid the political controversy over Amul Kiosk at Namma Metro stations in Karnataka. He said on Wednesday that Amul was the only company in the tender process released by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), who operates the ‘Nandini’ brand, did not participate in the process.
The tenders were released by BMRCL for metro stations such as Pattanadur Aghara, Indiranagar, Bennighali, Bappanahalli, Trinity, Sir M Visvesvaraya, Nadprabhu Keme Gowda (Majestic), National College, National College, Jayanagar and Banshankari. The controversy deepened when the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress government of giving priority to Amul in Gujarat and ignoring their brand Nandini in Karnataka.
BJP MP PC Mohan, taking a dig at the Congress, said on social media that in 2023, the Congress had accused the BJP of prioritizing the external brand, but now his government itself is promoting Amul.
Local dairy farmers and Nandini supporters can be relieved by Shivkumar’s explanation and assurance to ensure opportunity at eight metro stations for Nandini. This step is considered important towards promoting regional products and reducing political stress.
