Wondering what Kai learned from his doctor on General Hospital and whether he’ll ever return to the football field? A tense hospital visit, a camera crew, and heartbreaking test results leave Kai’s future in question and Trina reeling.
Here’s what the doctor revealed and how it changes everything for Kai going forward.
At the hospital, Kai meets with his doctor to learn the results of his latest tests regarding his spinal condition.
The doctor explains that the titanium has not fused to his spine well enough to compensate for his previous fracture. When Kai asks, “That’s it? I’ll never play football again?” Trina tells Josh, the documentarian filming them, to turn the camera off.
Trina asks if his condition might improve with time, but the doctor says this is as good as it gets. He tells Kai he can still participate in sports, but contact sports are out of the question due to the risk of a catastrophic injury. Kai thanks the doctor for all his efforts, and after the doctor leaves, Josh tries to resume filming. Trina threatens to throw both Josh and the camera out of the window if he doesn’t stop. Josh apologizes and exits the room.
Trina offers support and asks what she can do for him. Kai says there’s nothing anyone can do – it’s all over. He admits he had been lying about being optimistic, and that he had pinned all his hopes on the surgery. Since learning about the procedure, he believed he’d return to football. Now, it’s all gone, and he says he was “so damn close.”
Kai apologizes for losing control and admits he isn’t used to feeling this vulnerable. He insists on leaving to handle something alone. Trina urges him to take time to process the news, but Kai says he’ll be fine and promises to call her later.
Later, Trina tells Portia that Kai is heartbroken and blames Drew for giving him false hope. Kai then arrives at Drew’s door and tells him the documentary isn’t going to turn out the way they planned.
