His administration has since followed through with sweeping raids across the country , New York, Philadelphia and Houston. Navratilova, 68, moved to the States in 1975 when she was just 18 years old after leaving her home in Czechoslovakia.

It was the desire to become the world number one in that saw Navratilova make the move to the US, previously admitting at the time that she "couldn't do it under those circumstances at home". It was in 1981 that she became a US citizen and in 2008 she reacquired Czech citizenship, becoming a dual citizen.

However, Navratilova - who lives in Miami, Florida with her wife Julia Lemigova - admitted she remains in fear that the citizenship she's held for almost 45 years could be taken away from her. "If I were now still in that same position [as in 1975] and I had to go live somewhere, it would not be America, because it's not a democracy at the moment," the former world number one added.

Navratilova's legacy at Wimbledon has been etched into the history of the major for almost 50 years. Her first triumph at the All England Club came in 1976 when she won the doubles title alongside her greatest rival, Chris Evert. That was the first of seven Wimbledon titles for the sporting icon who achieved a whopping nine singles titles at the venue, the most of any male or female player in tennis history.

In total, she's won Open Era record 59 titles with 18 of them coming in singles, 31 in women's doubles, and 10 in mixed doubles, which contributed heavily to her earning over £16.3m ($22.6m) in prize money during her 32-year professional career.
