Mumbai: The officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old Nigerian woman for allegedly smuggling Amphetamine and Ecstasy drugs.
According to the DRI sources, intelligence was gathered by DRI, Mumbai which indicated that a huge quantity of amphetamine, a substance covered under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, is being carried by one woman Blessing Favour Oboh who is travelling in a bus from New Delhi to Mumbai concealed in her luggage.
Acting on the said intelligence, the DRI officers intercepted the said passenger at Kala Nagar bus stop, Bandra, Mumbai on Thursday. During the search of the trolley bag carried by her, the officers recovered and seized 2563 grams of Amphetamine and 584 grams of pills purported to be Ecstasy.
"In her statement she said she was getting handsome amount of quick and easy money in lieu of this. It is clearly evident that an ingenious modus operandi is being adopted to smuggle contraband, narcotic and psychotropic substances into India by way of concealment in the trolley bag carried by the passenger so that the same escapes the attention of the authorities and attempt to smuggle such drugs is thereby successfully carried out. This appears to be a case of illegal import with an attempt to smuggle contraband which is prohibited," said a DRI source.
