New Delhi . Indian Railways has taken an important decision to control passengers and to control congestion in trains. Ministry of Railways (Ministry of Railways) has announced that now the number of weightlist tickets in any train will be limited to 25% of the total capacity of the train. The purpose of this new rule is to provide better travel experience to passengers and reduce the problem of overbooking.

Unnecessary crowds in trains will also be reduced
According to railway officials, data shows that about 20% to 25% waiting tickets are confirmed by the chart. A new limit has been set on this basis so that passengers can get more clarity about the ticket status. After the circular issued by the Railway Board, various zonal railways across the country have started implementing this new system.

According to the Railways, this rule will be applicable to trains of all categories, such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Mail/Express and Superfast trains. For example, if 1,000 seats are available in a train, only a maximum of 250 weightlist tickets will be issued in it. This step will not only increase the chances of confirmation of their journey to passengers, but will also reduce unnecessary crowd in trains.

How much was waiting limit till now?
As per the January 2013 circular, maximum could be issued maximum 30 in AC First Class, 100 in AC second, 300 in AC third and 400 in sleeper class. Due to this, passengers often worried about the ticket being confirmed till the last moment.

A senior railway official said, “Due to the large number of waiting tickets, passengers with without confirmed tickets also used to climb, causing huge crowds and chaos in the coaches. The new policy would help prevent this disturbance.”

Zonal Railway gets exemption
According to a Railway Ministry official, every zonal railway has been empowered to set the limit of waiting tickets in view of the pattern of booking and cancellation in trains in its area. This will also keep the nature of trains and the flexibility according to the demand of the passengers. This new system will not only protect the passengers from confusion, but will also help reduce the unauthorized crowd in trains. This will make the boarding process more systematic and passengers traveling in reserved coaches will get better experience.
