Bihar Monsoon Alert:  The weather in Bihar will remain completely monsoonal on June 21. Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in different parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for many districts of the state, especially the impact of rain will be more visible in the south-west and north-east districts.

Situation of last 24 hours

On June 20, good rains were recorded in the southern and south-western districts of the state. Rains in districts like Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Gaya, Aurangabad, Sheikhpura and Nawada brought down the temperature. The maximum temperature remained between 30-32 degrees in most parts of the state, while the minimum temperature remained around 24-26 degrees Celsius.

Today’s weather and alerts for 21 June

On June 21, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (30-40 km/hr) are expected at some places in north-eastern districts of Bihar, Kishanganj, Araria and Purnia and south-western districts of Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad. At the same time, heavy rainfall warning has been issued at one or two places in seven districts including Buxar, Gaya, Sheikhpura, Nawada and Nalanda. People have been advised not to go to open places, stay away from electric poles and tall trees and strengthen temporary structures.

Forecast for the next two days

On June 22 (Saturday), very heavy rain is expected in Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Banka and Bhagalpur districts. Heavy rain may also occur in Purnia, Katihar, Jamui, Munger, Khagaria, Nawada, Sheikhpura and Madhepura. Strong winds along with thunderstorms are also expected in other parts of eastern Bihar.

On June 23 (Sunday), very heavy rains may occur in West Champaran, East Champaran and Sitamarhi districts. Heavy rains are also forecast in Gopalganj, Munger, Shivhar, Samastipur, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul and Madhepura. During this time, strong winds and lightning may also occur.

Monsoon conditions

As of June 20, the southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The northern boundary of the monsoon has now reached Jammu and Kashmir via Dehradun, Shimla, Manali. Rainfall activity has intensified due to the low pressure area formed over the southwest part of Bihar and the associated upper air cyclone. This system will weaken in the next 2-3 days, but till then widespread rainfall will continue across the state.

There is a warning of heavy rain, thunderstorm and strong winds in many districts of Bihar on June 21. Citizens and farmers have been advised to remain alert, especially in districts like Kaimur, Gaya, Araria and Purnia. Monsoon is now active in the entire state and its effect will increase further in the next two days. In such a situation, only administrative preparation and caution of common people can prevent the damage caused by the weather.
