IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge has announced that the central government has finally granted him permission to travel to the United States, days after he sought a formal explanation for the initial denial.
Kharge was scheduled to attend two international events—Boston Bio 2025 and this year’s Design Automation Conference in San Francisco—from June 14 to 27. However, while he was in France, the Union government had reportedly denied approval for his US visit.
Following the denial, Kharge wrote a letter to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking an official explanation and raised concerns in a press conference, questioning whether there were political reasons behind the rejection.
On Saturday, Kharge confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Ministry of External Affairs had reversed its earlier decision and granted clearance for the trip. He stated that the original request was submitted on May 15, and the approval letter was finally received on June 19, shortly after his public appeal and letter to Jaishankar.
Kharge had demanded that the Ministry issue a formal explanation for the earlier denial and had sent a two-page letter pressing for a clarification from the External Affairs Minister.
