Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Directing your first feature film is a high-pressure job. Directing your first feature film starring your famous sister adds a whole other layer of complexity. This was the unique challenge facing Kussh S. Sinha as he stepped behind the camera for his directorial debut, “Nikita Roy and The Book of Darkness,” with his sister, Sonakshi Sinha, in the lead role.
In a recent exclusive interview, Kussh opened up about navigating this delicate professional relationship. He revealed that he was acutely aware of the potential perceptions and made a conscious effort to maintain a strictly professional environment on set to avoid giving “the wrong impression.”
“It’s very important that when you are working, the relationship is that of a director and an actor,” Kussh explained. He was determined that their family bond would not lead to any assumptions of favoritism or nepotism. He wanted to ensure that the cast and crew saw a director dedicated to his craft and an actress committed to her role, not just two siblings working on a family project.
To achieve this, Kussh established clear boundaries from the outset. On set, he was the director, and Sonakshi was his lead actress. This approach allowed him to focus on bringing his creative vision to life while enabling Sonakshi to fully immerse herself in the character of Nikita Roy. The film, which also features veteran actor Paresh Rawal and Suhail Nayyar, required a focused and disciplined atmosphere.
Despite the professional distance he maintained, Kussh had nothing but praise for his sister’s talent and dedication, noting that she was a natural fit for the role. By prioritizing professionalism over personal ties during filming, Kussh successfully navigated the potential pitfalls of working with family, ensuring that the project’s integrity remained the top priority.
