Australian cricket icon Elise Perry has entered into a three -year agreement with Sydney Sixers, putting an end to the speculation about her future in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). This historical agreement ensures that Perry will remain the foundation stone of the ‘Magenta’ team at least by 13, which will give significant boost to the club as it is starting a new chapter under the leadership of the new head coach Matthew Mot.
Perry, 34, has been an integral part of the identity of Sydney Sixers since the inaugural session of the league in 2015 and became the first official signing of the club. In the last decade, he has established his heritage in WBBL’s most influential all -rounders, performing continuously with both bat and ball. Sixers under his leadership won the WBBL | 02 and WBBL | 03 consecutive titles.
At the individual level, Perry has scored 4,689 runs for Sixers at an average of 48.84, making him the club’s highest run-scorer and ranks second after Beth Muni in the league’s all-time records.
This announcement comes at a time when Sixers are trying to return to the championship level again after a challenging phase. Despite constantly fielding competitive teams, the team has been able to reach the final only once in the last six sessions.
Former Australian women’s team coach Matthew Mot The appointment indicates a strategic change for the club. He will replace Charlotte Edwards, who has taken over the responsibility of coaching the England women’s team. Mot’s return in Australian domestic cricket gives him an opportunity to re -work with many familiar faces like Perry, Ashley Gardner and Elisa Heli.
Sixers General Manager Rechhel Hens underlined the impact on Perry’s club, saying,
“Ellis has been an integral part of Sixers since the beginning and in the last decade she has played a very important role in creating the identity of the club. Whoever knows ‘Paes’ knows that she is not only a rich of extraordinary talent, but also one of the finest ambassadors of our game and an inspirational ideal for young cricketers.
Perry’s re -contracting provides a strong foundation for Sixers, who already have international stars like Gardner, Heli and New Zealand all -rounder Amelia Kerr. The club has so far confirmed the contract of nine players and in the Big Bash Draft this week, they have the pride of the number 1 pick – which is a golden opportunity to strengthen the team.
Current WBBL | 11 roster includes Perry as well as Gardner, Hely, Kerr, Matlan Brown, Lauren Chital, Elsa Hunter, Cauime Brees and Courtney Cipping. Sixers’ commitment to maintain experienced leadership and invest in main talents is clear.
