In Telangana, Kaushik Reddy, a legislator from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was apprehended by Warangal police early Saturday morning in connection with an alleged extortion case. However, he was granted bail later that evening by the court, as confirmed by police sources.
According to police reports, Reddy was arrested at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and subsequently taken to Warangal.
The opposition party, BRS, asserted that the court rejected the police's request for Reddy's remand.
Authorities have accused Reddy of threatening a mine owner to extort ₹25 lakh and demanding an additional ₹50 lakh, leading to the filing of a case against him.
B. Vinod Kumar, a former MP and lawyer for BRS, informed reporters that the Warangal court dismissed the request for Reddy's remand and granted him bail on personal surety.
Kumar stated that the defense attorneys argued in court that the legal provisions against Reddy were unjustified. However, police officials noted that one of the legal charges was dismissed, allowing Reddy to secure bail by submitting two personal sureties.
K.T. Rama Rao, the executive president of BRS, issued a statement claiming that false cases were being filed against Reddy due to his inquiries into the 'illegal activities' of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the corruption and irregularities involving ministers and leaders of the ruling Congress party. Rao demanded Reddy's unconditional release.
