The Duchess of Edinburgh is no doubt becoming one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, with her popularity seeming to increase as the years go by. As well as being a very hard worker, Sophie, 60, knows exactly where she stands as a royal, always acting with professionalism and class.

This remains the case even when times in the Royal Family are turbulent. For example, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sensationally quit royal life in 2020, Sophie has been very careful in what she has said when asked about them, including after the Duke and Duchess' interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, which saw them slate royal life.

In an interview with The Telegraph not long after Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah, Sophie was asked about the couple.

In a surprise seven-word statement, she simply responded: "I just hope they will be happy."

Prince Edward, Sophie's husband and Harry's uncle, has also made similar comments when asked about the couple.

When questioned about Harry and Meghan's decision to quit royal life, Edward, 61, said in 2021: "We wish them the very best of luck. It's a really hard decision."

While it has been widely reported that Harry and Meghan left royal life on not great terms with some royals, including Harry's brother Prince William, it is believed they never had any problems with either Edward or Sophie.

This is despite the fact Meghan reportedly "rejected" an attempt by Sophie to help her adapt to royal life after her 2018 wedding to Harry.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield once told GB News: "Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was very loving towards Meghan and attempted to have a relationship with her.

"The Queen actually suggested that the two get together and that Sophie mentor Meghan and Meghan said I've got Harry and she rejected that offer.

"I think that she was a great role model, and it was a missed opportunity for Meghan to learn how to navigate a difficult situation."
