New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Jatinder Singh, also known as Joti, who is a significant associate of the Babbar Khalsa International terrorist Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa, and notorious gangster Pavittar Batala, in connection with a terror conspiracy case in Punjab, officials reported on Sunday.
The chargesheet was submitted to a special NIA court located in Mohali on Friday.
Jatinder Singh, originally from Gurdaspur district in Punjab, was apprehended by the NIA in Mumbai on December 23 of the previous year, as stated by an official announcement.
According to the agency, Singh was implicated in the illegal acquisition and distribution of firearms from Madhya Pradesh to gangsters operating in Punjab.
He played a crucial role in supplying weapons to the ground operatives of Batala, a close ally of the designated terrorist Landa.
The NIA indicated that associates of Batala based abroad were overseeing Singh's operations within India.
These firearms were reportedly utilized by Batala's operatives in Punjab to further the criminal and terrorist activities of Babbar Khalsa International.
Further investigations by the NIA revealed that Singh procured illegal weapons from a known arms dealer, Baljeet Singh, also referred to as Rana Bhai, in Madhya Pradesh.
Baljeet Singh has already been arrested and charged by the NIA. The accused were reportedly using virtual phone numbers and encrypted messaging applications to evade detection by law enforcement, according to the statement.
The NIA is also probing the involvement of Landa and another designated terrorist, Harwinder Singh, alias Rinda, along with their foreign accomplices in this conspiracy.
