Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant gave a cheeky response to Sunil Gavaskar's 'superb, superb, superb' compliment following his terrific hundred against England on day 2 of the first Test against England in Leeds. With Cheteshwar Pujara asking Pant's reaction to the compliment, the 27-year-old said the feeling as same as yours.
The first innings of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia last year saw Gavaskar say on air 'Stupid, stupid, stupid' after Pant played a reckless shot on day three to perish at the crucial juncture of the game. However, the southpaw won plaudits for his whirlwind ton on day two as the tourists amassed 471.
Pujara asked the below question from Pant before play began on day 3:
"Stupid, stupid, stupid se superb, superb, superb aaya tha. Toh kya feeling thi?" (From Stupid, stupid, stupid to superb, superb, superb came. How was the feeling?)
"Feeling toh vahi hai jo aapko hai is samay. Bahut accha lagta hai, jab aap apni khaamiyon pe work karte ho. Jo setback hai usko comeback mein change karte ho. Vahi waala thought process tha. Maine kara hoga aisa but luckily main usko change kar paya vaisa. Hard work karke, focus aur displine rakh ke. Toh woh bahut exciting tha mere liye."
(The feeling is the same as you have at this time. It feels extremely good when you work on your weaknesses and turn setbacks into comebacks. That was the thought process. I was lucky to overcome my weaknesses. Hard work, focus and discipline were massively involved.)
Rishabh Pant completes 150 dismissals in Test cricket
Meanwhile, Team India's vice-captain completed a massive milestone as far as his keeping statistics go, completing 150 dismissals in the format. The landmark came after Prasidh Krishna got Pope to nick off for 106. The southpaw took one more catch when Stokes edged one off Mohammed Siraj's bowling in the 65th over of the innings.
Despite those two scalps, Harry Brook continued to score freely as the home side went to lunch at 327/5 after beginning at 209/3. Brook notably got the second lifeline of his innings as Pant fluffed a tough chance behind the stumps off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling.
