Una: The launch of the Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, Una district, is poised to create numerous opportunities for science students throughout Himachal Pradesh.
This ambitious national initiative marks a crucial advancement towards self-sufficiency in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as a significant driver for education, research, and job creation for the region's youth.
It is anticipated that the park will generate between 15,000 to 20,000 direct jobs and approximately 30,000 indirect positions, providing pathways for students specializing in pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, BSc, MSc, pharmacy, and lab technology. These positions are expected to offer competitive salaries and substantial career advancement prospects.
The Bulk Drug Park is designed to be more than just an industrial area; it aims to evolve into a comprehensive center for education, skill enhancement, and innovation for science students.
Equipped with cutting-edge laboratories, centers of excellence, and modern training facilities, it will provide students with exposure to real-world industrial settings and research opportunities.
To prepare local youth for the industry, the Himachal Pradesh government intends to implement technical training programs tailored to the specific requirements of the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. These initiatives will help students acquire practical skills, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry practices.
Pharmaceutical firms establishing operations within the park will adhere to international industry standards, allowing students to gain experience and knowledge that was previously only available through out-of-state or international placements.
This local-global connection will empower students to pursue careers not only in India but also in the global pharmaceutical landscape.
With government backing in the form of affordable land, subsidized energy, and infrastructural support, science students will also have the opportunity to explore entrepreneurial ventures, including biotech and pharmaceutical startups. The park aims to cultivate a culture of innovation, providing young minds with the resources and ecosystem necessary to turn their ideas into successful businesses.
“The Una Bulk Drug Park signifies a transformative opportunity for science students in Himachal Pradesh. It is set to become a launchpad for careers, innovation, and global exposure — right at their doorstep. As this major project develops, it embodies the hopes of countless young students eager to influence the future of India's pharmaceutical and scientific sectors,” states Shashi Verma, a science educator in Una.
