Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show for India in England’s first innings in the Leeds Test. The 30-year-old pacer finished with figures of 5/82 as India held on to a slender six-run lead. It could have been way more if Bumrah had not overstepped when Harry Brook was yet to get off the mark and fell to a good catch. Brook took advantage of the reprieve and made a brilliant 99.
Nonetheless, it was Bumrah who destroyed the core of the English batting line-up. In fact, he would have finished with more wickets if the Indian fielders had held on to their catches. In the end, the hosts made 465 in reply to the visitors’ 471. With two days left and India leading by 96 with eight wickets left, it is still anybody’s game. One hopes the weather does not play spoilsport.

For Bumrah, the Leeds spell saw him enter the record books multiple times. He bowled with a lot of heart and was rewarded for sticking to the basics. His victims were Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue. Three of his five scalps were in the top and middle order which means he was wreaking havoc amidst the English batters.
So what were the records that Bumrah broke as he punished England with good bowling in Leeds? Let’s find out how he ended up in the record books time and again during his world class spell. Here we go:
1. Most Test Wickets in SENA Countries

Bumrah went past the legendary Wasim Akram and also became the first Asian bowler to take 150 Test wickets in SENA countries. He now leads the pack with 150 sticks to his name. He’s far from done with years of Test cricket left ahead of him.
2. Most Test Fifers by an Indian in England

This was Bumrah’s third Test five-wicket haul on English soil. As a result, he has the most by any Indian bowler in the country. No wonder he is hailed by many to be the best in the world at the moment.
3. Joint Most Test Fifers by an Indian Abroad

Bumrah now has 12 fifers outside India. He is level with another legend Kapil Dev. However, he has done it in nearly half the number of Tests. Kapil took 12 fifers in 66 Tests away from home while Bumrah has done it in merely 34 Tests. It won’t be long before he has the record all to himself.
4. Joint Most Fifers in World Test Championship

Ravindrachandran Ashwin and Bumrah now share the most fifers in the World Test Championship. Both have 11 each. Bumrah will soon have this record to himself too as Ashwin retired in 2024.
