Covid-19 Study: The Covid pandemic has been causing serious problems globally for the last five years. Recently, a wave was also seen in India, although its speed has now been controlled. From mid-May, the infection was seen increasing in the country due to the Nimbus and Stratus variants. On May 22, the total active cases of corona in the country were 257, which increased to 7400 by June 15. However, now it has started decreasing again. According to the information shared by the Union Health Ministry on June 23, currently, there are 4425 total active cases in the country.
In the last 24 hours, one person has also died due to corona in the country. The 58-year-old man had a type-I respiratory failure problem with cardiopulmonary arrest, the condition worsened due to corona infection, which led to his death. With this, the number of deaths due to corona in the country so far this year has increased to 124.
Health experts said, that even though the number of coronavirus cases is decreasing in the country these days, all people still need to take special precautions so that the pace of infection does not increase again.
Scientists said - that antibodies are continuously decreasing.
In a recent report, David Hui Shu-Chiong, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said that due to the decline in antibody levels in the global population, corona outbreaks have been seen every six to nine months, this may continue in the future as well. We need to be alert in advance about its prevention.
Given the risks of repeated spread of infection, health experts have advised all high-risk people to get annual COVID vaccination so that the body's immunity can be strengthened.
How effective are vaccines against new variants?
A team of experts conducted a study on the ongoing coronavirus infection in many countries of the world. Researchers found that the XFG variant, also known as Stratus, has two spike mutations. These help it escape antibodies that target the corona. One of these mutations is also helping it to dodge a broad range of antibodies, making it easier for the immune system to neutralize it and spread the infection.
The scientists found that even though these variants appear to be highly infectious, people who have been vaccinated should not be at much risk from corona.
Study on the effectiveness of vaccination
To understand this subject, the team of researchers examined antibody effectiveness by taking blood samples of people who had been vaccinated and then already infected. The team found that antibody effectiveness was reduced by about 2 times against the XFG variant, while against NB.1.8.1 it was reduced by about 1.6 times.
However, scientists reported that people who have already been vaccinated, especially those who have taken updated booster shots, may have a lower risk of getting the disease and taking a severe form of infection.
WHO has considered these 6 variants dangerous
In an update, WHO classified 6 variants of coronavirus as variants of monitoring till 23 May 2025.
These 6 variants are KP.3, KP.3.1.1, LB.1, XEC, LP.8.1 and NB.1.8.1.
According to reports, the team of scientists has seen some additional mutations in these variants which can rapidly increase its infectiousness. Scientists have found that these variants can cause a rapid increase in infection in a population, due to which all people need to be alert.
