Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, authorities in Assam have reportedly detained two additional individuals on charges of being 'anti-Hindu', bringing the total number of arrests in such cases to 97.
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this update on Monday. He noted that one person was apprehended from Tinsukia and another from Nagaon.
Sarma stated, 'Action against anti-Hindu elements continues... 97 anti-national and anti-Hindu criminals are now behind bars.'
The individual arrested from Tinsukia had allegedly shared objectionable content about Hinduism on social media, while the suspect from Nagaon made derogatory remarks about Lord Ram.
Earlier, Aminul Islam, an opposition AIUDF legislator, was arrested for allegedly defending Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, facing charges of treason.
After being granted bail, Islam was subsequently detained again under the National Security Act (NSA). Sarma had previously threatened to 'break the legs' of those chanting pro-Pakistan slogans following the Jammu and Kashmir attack on May 2.
While addressing a rally for the upcoming Panchayat elections, he urged the public to empower Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army, praying for the capture of Pakistani terrorists hiding anywhere in the world and to 'break their legs'.
On April 22, terrorists attacked a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals, most of whom were tourists, with many others sustaining injuries.
