Anushka Sharma , who tied the knot with cricketer Virat Kohli on December 11, 2017, in an intimate ceremony in Florence, Italy, has consciously taken a step back from the limelight since embracing motherhood. After the birth of their daughter Vamika on January 11, 2021, and more recently, their son Akaay on February 15, 2024, the actress has notably reduced her presence in both films and public events.

In a heartfelt conversation with Vogue following Vamika’s arrival, Anushka spoke candidly about prioritising her role as a mother. She shared that while Virat’s professional commitments demand year-round travel due to his cricketing career, her profession gives her the flexibility to decide when and how much she wants to work. “I’m the primary caregiver, especially during these early years. Being self-employed, I can space out my projects and take on fewer films,” she explained.

Discussing how the couple approaches parenting, Anushka said they view responsibilities not through traditional roles of ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ but as a collective family effort. “Raising our children with a balanced mindset is key. It’s about shared responsibilities—being present for our kids and nurturing them together,” she said.

She also reflected on the importance of leading by example. “Children absorb everything. If they see both parents working, they’ll understand the value of balance. We need to manage things more mindfully, yes—but it’s doable. The environment you create at home matters,” she added. Coming from a progressive household herself, Anushka is keen on instilling strong values in her children. “Love is the foundation of our home. We want to raise respectful, grounded individuals. It’s not about overindulgence but about instilling the right values early on,” she noted.
