Netflix has shared the very first look at an upcoming period drama that Bridgerton fans will love.

The production of a fresh adaptation of My Brilliant Career is currently in progress in Adelaide, Australia.

The book was penned by author Miles Franklin and first saw publication in 1901.

As per the synopsis provided on Good Reads, the romantic tale revolves around Sybylla, a teenager who detests her existence on an outback farm.

The labour is backbreaking and her alcoholic father, coupled with her demanding mother, drive her to distraction.

She yearns for a world she's only caught glimpses of in books. She turns down the chance to wed a wealthy young man in order to preserve her independence.

Consequently, she is forced to take up a position as a governess to a local family to whom her father owes money, reports Surrey Live.

Interestingly, due to the popularity and the perception that the characters were based on her own family, Franklin pulled the novel from publication until after her demise.

However, she also wrote a sequel titled My Career Goes Bung, which hit the shelves in 1946. A cinematic adaptation of the first book was created in 1979.

Now, Netflix is set to transform the popular novel into a series, with various locations across South Australia being revamped for the period production.

Fans of period dramas, look alive!

A new series destined to rival the likes of Bridgerton is on the cards. There's no concrete release date, but given that the cameras are rolling, eager viewers might have to mark their calendars for 2026 at the earliest.

Hints of what's to come were teased in a fleeting sixteen-second video where we see a joyful young lady jot down the title in her diary before frolicking off into the sunset with an exuberant leap.

Philippa Northeast, whose star turn was seen in Territory, will headline as Sybylla. The cast is further embellished with notable talents, including Christopher Chung of Slow Horses fame, Andor's Genevieve O'Reilly, and Anna Chancellor, lauded for her role in The Split.

At the helm of the creative team is Liz Doran as the showrunner, with a history of crafting compelling narratives in Barons and Please Like Me under her belt. Reflecting on the project, she shared: "It's been a privilege to work with so many incredible creatives on this reimagining of Miles Franklin's rollicking tale of a young woman's quest to determine her own life."

Minyoung Kim, Netflix Vice President, Content APAC, couldn't contain her excitement for the production: "My Brilliant Career is a timeless Australian story with themes as relevant today as when it was originally published."

The partnership with Australia's top-tier talent and creatives has Netflix buzzing with anticipation, as shared by Kim. With South Australia's breath-taking vistas as its backdrop, the streaming giant considers this location perfect for their new endeavour.

My Brilliant Career is coming to Netflix soon.
