Former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi passed away on Monday, June 23 due to cardiac arrest in London. He was 77 and survived by his wife Kalindi, son Nayan, who also played first-class cricket, and daughter Vishakha. One of India's cricketing icons, Sachin Tendulkar, expressed sadness over passing away of one of India's greatest spinnersTaking to X he wrote, " I met Dilipbhai for the first time in the UK in 1990, and he bowled to me in the nets on that tour. He was really fond of me, and I reciprocated his feelings. A warm-hearted soul like Dilipbhai will be deeply missed. I will miss those cricketing conversations which we invariably had. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti."Dilip Doshi's cricket career After the renowned Bishan Singh Bed retired, Doshi made his India debut in 1979. He played in the format one last time in 1983. In 33 games, he claimed 114 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls. He had three successful home seasons in his career, taking 100 wickets in just 28 games. Doshi also played 15 matches in the ODI format, between 1980 and 1982, picking 22 wickets at 23.81. His best showing, though, came in 1981 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where he helped India win by taking five wickets. He was practically unplayable on an up-and-down MCG track after bowling with a fractured toe.Doshi was also a known figure in County cricket, having been part of it for more than a decade, where he represented Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.Over the years, Doshi was a regular at cricket games, often spotted with Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, who became a good friend from 1976.
